  1. Oh shit, Io. I'm so sorry for you and for him. It's a bastard of an exam and in many ways a crap shoot. Hugs to you.

  2. Oh no Io! I'm sooooooooo sorry! I can only imagine how disapointed you and A are. I hope he can re-take it a second time with better results. Oh bugger!

  3. Oh, that sucks! I'm sorry. Not completely the same thing, but I'm a CPA, so I can commiserate with those big tests. So much pressure.

  4. That totally sucks, for both of you. I spent a summer basically alone while JD studied. Take your poor guy out for a drink (or ten) and try not to stress about it.

  5. Shit! That really sucks, Io. You're right that it's not the end of the world, and I'm sure the second time will be better, but it's still a big disappointment. Sending you a big hug!

  8. Well. Shit. Hopefully the firm will keep him on while he takes it again. I've heard that firms sometimes do that.

Sounds like a perfect time for a coupla beers.

  10. I am so sorry. That really is very disappointing. Having sat myself, I know how hard it is to prepare and then to not pass after all that work must be so frustrating. My sympathies.

  11. Fuck.

Man, I'm so sorry. It's so not the end of the world, like you said, but I can see that A_ could be disappointed. He wil brush himself off, and take it again, though, I know.

In the mean time, buy him (and yourself) a few drinks. Might I interest you in having some NC wine sent your way?

  12. Ah crap. It really sucks when our fears are realized and not just imaginary. (((((Hugs)))))

  18. Shit Io! I'm so sorry for A_- I agree with the multiple rounds of drinks & he ~will~ do better next time. Especially with so many of us rooting for him.

But still- a crappy night & I'm so sorry.

  19. I'm so sorry. But try not to worry too much--most firms will keep on the attorneys who didn't pass. I'm sure it will be rough for him, and he'll probably feel humiliated and lacking in confidence, but he WILL pass, and this will eventually be something you look back on as just another bump in the road. Hang in there.

  20. sorry to hear it. that test sucks big time. thankfully it's no reflection of what kind of person he is or lawyer he'll be. still sucks though.

  21. I know he's probably not ready for assvice, but since July is right around the corner, here is my big tip for preparing for (and passing) the bar (I've taken and passed two):

Buy a million blank index cards. Take the BarBri guides (or whatever test prep guide he's using), and make flash cards out of ALL of the information in them, for EVERY subject. It takes forever, but break down all of the information into a million flash card questions. Not big questions--little questions. Really delve into the subject matter. Your own questions based on the BarBri books will always be better than the packaged boxes of flashcards you can buy.

Take flash cards with you everywhere. Have him test himself with them. YOU test him with them. Have him take the last two weeks before the bar off from work, and do nothing but flashcards, 18 hours a day.

Also, practice essays. There are lots of books, etc., out there about best bar exam essay format, but mine preferred method was to frame the problem, provide the answer, and then explain the answer. Drag in law school professors to read his practice essays and give him pointers, if necessary.

Sounds crazy, but by the time he takes the test again, he will have done the flash cards so many times that the words will literally pop into his head as he reads the questions. He'll also be comfortable with how to attack the essays.

    Hope that helps.

  22. I'm so sorry. It is not a reflection of how good of a lawyer he will be. But what a downer.
Love the new haircut, by the way!

  23. I'm so sorry to hear that! You two must be so disappointed. Hugs to you both.

  24. Oh all the worry, studying and stress. Give him a big hug and tell him how smart he still is. And make him keep trying. He will be a wonderful lawyer someday. Hoping that things look up soon for you guys!

And since I haven't posted for a few days...I like your cute hairdo!
