Home again home again

Man, I screwed this ICLW stuff up with my trip. I have approximately one million unread posts to read and I didn't really comment yesterday. I got in my five plus one, but quit there. So I got the letter, but not the spirit.

My trip to NYC was good. I got there Saturday morning and my best friend L and I had brunch and then went to Ikea. I got some cute curtains and a bedspread. Of course, since I was flying I couldn't buy all the stuff I wanted to, which was probably a good thing. We went back to her apartment and put together a coffee table then went to watch Real Genius at her friend's place. Terrible movie, but Val Kilmer was hot back in the day.

Went out for beer, got home at 3:30am and slept. We made brunch at her house on Sunday, then I went to dinner with my aunt and uncle. My cousin just graduated from college and apparently decided he wanted to upgrade his car from the BM.W he got in high school. (They have gobs of money.) So they got him an Audi. Apparently, they decided to give the BMW to one of their other nieces. KBB value of $23,000.

I seriously wish they hadn't told me that. It was very nice of them to give me $50 for cab fare after paying for a fancy dinner but after hearing that story I wanted to ask for ten grand. Greedy of me, I know, but geeze. This niece could use great gifts too!

Went to a going away party for one of L's friends who's moving back to Israel, then went to bed. Came back this morning.

And now A has gone. He takes the bar tomorrow and the next day.

If you have any pull with G*d or the people in charge of grading this puppy, I'd appreciate some help...

  2. I think my last four years of life have proved I have absolutely no pull with God or anyone else. But I will be thinking of A and sending him all the smart/legal/lucky vibes I possibly can.

NYC sounds fun. Too bad you weren't born a week later, we could've met. We are going this weekend, for a few doc appointments but also for fun.

As much as I can afford, anyway! LOL!

  4. YAY you are back :-) Your trip to the city sounds fantastic. Happy Birthday week! What day is your actual birthday?

Sending A all of the positive vibes I possess. I have to agree with katedaphne - I think I'm on some sort of "bad" list with the big guy upstairs evident from paying through the nose for treatments, dildo cam visits and Kaiser co-pays.

Let me know how the Cardinal Zin (and other stuff) tastes.

  8. I'm so glad you had fun and made it home safe and sound. Although bummer that you didn't make it home with an extra 10 grand.

I can't really claim to have any pull with G*d or the Universe, but I'll add A_ to my list of those I mention randomly throughout the day in my prayers, such as they are. Good luck, A!

  14. Really praying for A on the bar. If you talk to him, just tell him to stay calm and breathe and take each question as it comes.

  15. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts going A's way this week...

Welcome back! I'm glad you had a great time, and I totally agree about Val Kilmer being way hot back in the day. I was IN LOVE with him in highschool. Like, crazy IN LOVE. :)

  16. AYYYY-KEEEEE-YUUUUUUU!!!!! Jealous! Oh, how I love IKEA! I am very seriously glad that I do not have an IKEA close by or I would have to take a second job (or let's be honest- a second mortgage) to afford my habit. Of course, from what I understand, we're getting one in Charlotte (which is about 1.5 hrs from here) next spring, so that will be the perfect distance! I can go there if I really need to, but it won't be close enough that I will go there spontaneously and spend thousands of dollars on stylish home decor.

I don't know the grading dudes and with my blasphemous mouth, I probably don't have much pull with the master of the universe (by which I mean god-figure, not He-Man), but I can send some positive energy in A_'s direction. And I can (as always) keep you and yours in my thoughts.

And your aunt and uncle are insane! Do they know that you've been having car issues? Do they know that you and A_ could SO use a few thou. right now? Do they know how much IVF/ICSI costs? I'm sorry, those are all terribly personal questions, and I really am only asking them for pure rhetoric, but still... It's hard to hear people talk about money with such ease when you don't have much yourself. It always makes me sad.

All in all, though, it sounds like you had a fabulous trip. And I'm glad 'cos you so deserve it.

  18. I am glad you got back safely and had a good time.

My uncle bought a new house this weekend and well I really mean mansion in my little world. His closet is as big as my bedroom and I was thinking about how many IVF's I could do with the difference in what his and my house cost.

I am sending all the positive thoughts I can send for A.
